Les Indiennes fabrics are block-printed by hand in India using natural dyes and pure, organic cotton. The production of our fabric supports the village where it is made, uses no electricity and provides fair-trade employment for more than 50 families. Much of the beauty of our fabrics lies in the subtle color and pattern variations found on every bolt. Imperfections are normal, pleasing hints that the fabrics are made entirely by hand.
Les Indiennes textiles are 100% preshrunk cotton, made entirely by hand using India’s traditional kalamkari process. Due to the hand-crafted nature of the products, exact repeat or pattern alignment cannot be guaranteed and slight imperfections will exist. Smudges and spots are often present, and because only natural dyes are used, slight bleeding of color may occur as well as fading. Dye lots can have major variations and will not match from order to order; therefore, customers must order initially a sufficient quantity of fabric to complete a job.
Fabric Weights & Ordering
Our fabrics are 60” (150 cm) wide and come in three weights:
Regular weight – 20s organic cotton
Bedding weight – 60s organic cotton, a lighter-weight fabric
Canvas – Suitable for upholstery
We sell by the full meter. There is 5 meter (5 yard) minimum order for fabric. Lead times for custom orders vary according to the time of year. From September to April, the lead time is 8-10 weeks. During monsoon season, from May through August, the lead time is 10-12 weeks. All orders are final and not returnable, refunded for credit or exchanged. Please be sure your order amount is accurate so the fabric shall be consistent as possible.
Our fabrics are printed on bolts that range from 5 to 10 meters. If you need more than 10 meters, your order will be printed on multiple bolts with the cuts to be determined by you. For example, an order for 35 meters might be printed on five 7-meter bolts.
Because dye lots vary we do not guarantee that colors will match fabric swatches.
